1. Not Ordering the Right Confetti

Did you know that some types of wedding confetti can harm the environment? There are various options, including paper, metallic, and even rice confetti, but most wedding venues don’t allow these due to their environmental impact. Even biodegradable paper confetti goes through an extensive manufacturing process that uses valuable resources.

That’s why biodegradable petal confetti, like our Shropshire grown Delphinium and Wildflower petals, is the best choice! Not only are they natural and eco-friendly, but they also create a stunning flutter effect, perfect for those all-important photos. Delphinium petals are light and float gently, giving your photographer plenty of time to capture the moment. For an extra pop of colour, you can mix in larger petals with our Pick and Mix Confetti,  but we recommend not using them on their own, as they fall faster and can overwhelm the shot.

One last note: Beware of cheap petal options from overseas. These often turn out to be dusty, poor-quality petals that won’t give you the dreamy confetti moment you envision.

2. Relying on Guests to Bring Confetti

Years ago, it was common for guests to bring their own confetti, but times have changed. If you leave it up to guests, you might end up with non-biodegradable confetti that isn’t allowed at your venue or worse, not enough confetti for everyone!

To ensure the best experience, we always recommend couples provide their own biodegradable confetti. Not only does this guarantee that you have enough for your dream confetti shot, but it also gives you the opportunity to pick colours that match your wedding theme. Plus, it’s so much fun choosing your confetti mix!

3. Not Ordering Enough Confetti

One of the biggest mistakes couples make is not ordering enough confetti. The more confetti you have, the better your shots will be!

From years of experience (and plenty of test throws!), we find a litre is enough for about 10-12 handfuls. . So, if you have 100 guests, you’ll need around 10 litres to ensure a beautiful petal shower.

If you know some of your guests won’t throw confetti, you can order slightly less, but make sure you have enough for at least half of them. Need help working it out? We have a handy Confetti Calculator on our website to guide you!

4. Not Discussing the Shot with Your Photographer

Your confetti moment will be over in seconds, so planning ahead with your photographer is key. Let them know that this shot is important to you, and they can advise on the best location, timing, and how guests should stand.

Traditionally, the confetti toss happens when newlyweds exit the ceremony, but you can choose when and where to have it. More and more couples are opting for a second confetti moment in the evening, allowing evening guests to join in too. Confetti cannons have also become popular for smaller guest lists, creating an epic photo opportunity!

5. Not Prepping Guests on How to Throw Confetti

This may sound like a small detail, but how your guests throw confetti can make or break your picture. If they throw it directly at you, it won’t create that beautiful cascading effect you’re dreaming of.

To get the best results, enlist the help of your bridesmaids or groomsmen. Have them hand out confetti and remind guests to throw high in the sky, rather than at your faces! The higher it’s thrown, the longer it takes to fall, giving your photographer plenty of time to capture the perfect shot. You can also add a beautiful sign at your confetti station with instructions to help guests know exactly what to do.
