Wedding superstitions
As today is Friday 13th, I thought I would do some research about wedding superstitions and find out the story behind them.
We've all heard the phrase "something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue". The bride is meant to wear something that represents each, but why?
Wearing "something old" represents the bride's past, the "something new" is a symbol of the couples happy future. The "something borrowed" should be from someone who is happily married in the hope that some of that person's good fortune rubs off on her and the "Something blue" symbolizes fidelity and love.
We have a range of blue petals here at SP from Frosted blue, Bluebird, Duck Egg Blue, Summer Sky and Something Blue. Why not have some pretty blue petals as you "something blue"?
I've always loved seeing brides being carried over the threshold in romantic films. This superstition began in Medieval Europe where many believed that a bride was extra vulnerable to evil spirits through the soles of her feet. To avoid bringing in any evil spirits, the groom carried the bride into their new home.
Waking up to rain on your wedding day is always a worry for brides and grooms to be but it may actually be a blessing. In some cultures, rain on your wedding day symbolizes fertility and cleansing.
We've been sent in some fab photos from our lovely customers who have created some great confetti shots in the rain.
Veils always look beautiful, but why do brides wear them? The wedding veil is worn as it offers protection; according to Roman tradition, the veil hides the brides face from evil spirits who are jealous of her happiness.
Wishing you all a very happy Friday!
Love as always, SP x x
