Summer is hands down one of our favourite times of the year here on the Shropshire Petals farm. Not only are we really busy creating lots of beautiful wedding confetti orders in the petal shed, the flower fields are now looking amazing as they are popping with an array of stunning colours which are ready for us to handpick.

Our delphiniums are popping with colour

Thankfully the weather has been relatively on our side this season; it's always a worry as we did come up against some tough weather conditions last year. Long may it continue as lots of sunshine (and a little rain) keep our flowers looking on form and flowering; meaning we can supply you with the very best petals that nature has to offer.

We regularly check in on the progress of the flowers to make sure they're absolutely perfect, and Ashley is always popping along with her camera in tow to snap them in all their glory. Here's a little of what's been going on in the flower field so far.

The fields in bloom

Our dedicated flower picking teams have been working extremely hard and have so far harvested our Lagurus, Blue Cornflowers, Nigella Orientalis, Wheat, Nigella Pods and Frosted Blue Delphiniums.

The lagurus are looking particularly epic this year (if we do say so ourselves). We struck luck with the weather when hand-picking our lagurus, once picked the team then placed the bunches on giant stillages and brought them back to the farm to be dried onsite. These whimsical dried grasses can be used in flower bouquets, as part of fun DIY projects, or even placed in a vase by themselves for that rustic charm.

Our cornflowers always look so enchanting in the flower field. Ashley could photograph them all day long! These are the delightful blue cornflowers that the team have now harvested. They make our biodegradable Blue Bird petal confetti and are used in Something Blue and Navy Rose confetti mix. You can also opt to use them when making your own bespoke mix via our Pick and Mix tool. We never dye any of our petals so you have the confidence that every colour is 100% true to nature.

The bees are huge fans of these beautiful and delicate cornflowers.

As you can guess by the image below, it was slightly damp when we started to pick our Frosted blue delphiniums, but this didn't affect the team. They powered on through and filled an abundance of crates - it's safe to say we won't be running out of these pretty petals or dried flower bunches anytime soon. Fancy taking a closer look at our frosted blue delphinium petals? You can order them on their own via our confetti sample service and also some of the popular mixes they are included in such as Summer Sky, Summer Nights and Forget Me Knot.

We count ourselves lucky to pick flowers on our wonderful flower farm during the summer months; it really is a delight, that is when the British weather is of course on our side.

Wildlife in the flower field

We absolutely love wildlife spotting in the flower field, there have been lots of lovely hares visiting of late but they aren't a fan of the camera. As always, the bees and butterflies can't get enough of our cornflowers, they actually have a hum as the bees gather to collect pollen.

Our flower fields are just the most perfect haven for wildlife during the summer months!

We love the stunning blue flower our Nigella Pod has when blooming in the field
