A Bit About Tamsin Thomson Art
We have recently launched our confetti photo competition with the wonderful Tamsin Thomson from Tamsin Thomson art so we thought we'd find out a bit more about the artist......
I was born
in the Scottish Borders and brought up on our family farm, Ferneycastle. I
always loved to paint throughout school, did Standard Grade and Higher just
because I enjoyed it. (I was and still am very influenced by the countryside I
grew up in). I studied Archeology at Glasgow uni and left with a Masters. I moved to Aberdeen with my now husband to allow for his career change to become a
Land Agent. We lived in a wee rural suburb of Aberdeen called Peterculter for a
year. I didn't really like Aberdeen and I knew hardly anyone, so to keep myself
entertained, I started to paint. I put a few things on Facebook and people
wanted to buy them, so that is essentially where my art business began.
I developed
my style throughout that year, and absolutely loved to paint all the time. (I
was pregnant with number 1 child up there too so that restricted my going out
and being sociable abilities!) We moved to Fife for a year in summer 2013, just
before Clark arrived. I just kept painting and trying different animals and
people kept liking them and asking to buy them, more and more people were
commissioning paintings too. Then when Ferg got his permanent job in Edinburgh
after graduation, we looked to move back to the Borders. It just so happened a
house was for sale on my family farm, so we bought that and moved back down
here (summer 2014). This was when I was able to expand my art business into
cards, prints, bags and mugs.
I hope to continue to expand and develop my
business in the future, it's just so amazing to have found something I
absolutely love doing and be able to be at home as a full time mum too. I do
feel very lucky to be in that position.
The prize up for grabs is a print of 'Lovebirds'
- I painted this on a card for our friends who had just got engaged.
They are
such cute wee birds and I thought they represented any two people in that
glorious stage of 'over the toply' in love so well! When I put an image online,
I got such an overwhelming response and requests for prints/cards of them, so I
kept the customer happy as it were :)
You can see all of Tamsins lovely range on the Tamsin Thomson Art website. To be in with a chance of winning Simply like The Shropshire Petals Facebook page and upload your confetti shot and we will enter them into our competition. Alternatively send us your pics and we will enter them for you. We will be choosing the winner at the end of August, so you've got plenty of time. Good luck!
Love as always, SP x x
